Weekend!!

It's been a week since I started the thesis. The topic is quite interesting and funnily the more I dig into it the more I m intrigued by it. I am doing the literature review but just reading and reading away. I haven't found a good angle to start my work with. Though the main part is to implement the concept. Let's see how it goes.

As for the company, the working environment is great, the co-workers are polite and nice. However, I did notice that people don't greet each other unless they know you but I find it weird every time I walk in the corridor to go to the kitchen (where you have that great coffee machine!) and I see some fellow workers who just passes by without a simple Swedish "Hej". Maybe this is a culture thing as well, I love to greet and that with a big smile :)

Now, it's the weekend!! A good time to clean up the mess that has piled up at home and relax with nice hot tea tugged in my blanket in this cold cold weather...C'est la vie ^^

The last mile....thesis time!

Finally, slacking time is off! Starting my thesis tomorrow. Well starting I am not sure but I will meet my supervisor tomorrow. I am a bit excited as for the first time I will be "working" in a telecom company and I don't know how different will that be from a thesis done at a university. I still have memories from my previous one... :/

I am going through different websites about how to organize and plan the thesis because it's all about good time management. That's one thing that's going to be really challenging. Another thing is the project itself, I will work with hardware! Going back in time, I used to always be the one who just watches during my practical labs...This time I will be forced to take the steering wheel and just do it!

Anyway, I can't wait to start and hopefully, it will go well. I will keep on updating about it at least once every week to keep track of my progress.

Ice skating for the first time

Today, I was supposed to go to Djurgården which is a small green island near Stockholm central. However, lately, I have been up late to watching movies and what not, it was very hard to wake up early in the morning for the walk in the garden.

That being cancelled, I got more sleep time and woke up around 11pm. That's where I got a text from a friend who was going ice skating. I thought to myself...what the heck! Let's give it a shot. I have seen so many people on TV during ice skating competition as if there were dancing on the ground itself.

So, the skating rink was at Kunstragarden. I remember seeing the rink several times when I went there because it is close to Cafe Opera where we go for parties at times. It's always full of people of all ages, children, adults. The music was great, good recent pop songs and the ambiance was great as well.

I arrived at the rink, rented the skates for 50 sek and received a pair of shoes with different colors ^^ It took me some time to get to the rink but once I managed I couldn't stand for more than 5 seconds. It was actually harder than I thought to skate on ice. I fell, got up, fell, got up and finally i was able to skate a little bit. It was so entertaining though seeing the others skate so well specially the young Swedish children. I heard they actually learn to skate even before to know how to walk!

Overall, the day was full of laughter and colors as everyone was wearing different colors of jackets, gloves, caps. Outside the rink, people were gathered among friends and family talking, smiling, drinking hot coffee.

It was indeed a great experience my first time skating! I hope I will return there next week and improve a bit. Kind of missing the ice :) But at first Djurgården!!

Good morning

Just woke up. It's already 9.30 am but that's earlier than usual. No classes, projects, homework...so I am using this time to the fullest to relax and sleep! I can't count the number of movies I have watched lately or the number of time I have wasted on the Internet (mostly on facebook).

It's funny when you are in class or working and have many things to do, we complain and then comes the period with nothing. At first, we are ecstatic with the free time and do some of the things we couldn't do when we were busy but then we feel the nothingness...A human mind needs to be busy, occupied...we need to do something, to work.

Suddenly, I remember a quote from Nietzsche (yes, I did do philosophy in high school but I admit I had to google the full quote): "To escape boredom, man works either beyond what his usual needs require, or else he invents play, that is, work that is designed to quiet no need other than that for working in general."

Therefore, I can't wait for next week to start my thesis. Of course, once I start I will again hope that the holidays come as soon as possible. Sounds like a vicious circle ^^
